Sealing Basement Water OutNegative-Side Basement Waterproofing |
|
Negative side sealant consists of either a waterproof paint or hydraulic cement that is designed to coat the inside of a basement wall, sealing any cracks in the wall as well as stopping moisture that is constantly seeping through into your basement air from the earth through porous cement basement walls and floors. While this may work to stop a small crack or series of cracks for a short amount of time, it cannot work as a permanent solution. By the time the water reaches the inside of the basement walls, it has already come through the foundation. Additionally, negative side sealant does not address the problem of water outside of the foundation putting pressure on basement walls. Within the first couple of months or couple of rainfalls, the sealer will begin to blister and peel off and the water will enter in anyways. In the meantime, the continued pressure will continue to work on this crack and others and can cause the water to enter the basement through other areas instead.
