When choosing a dehumidifier for your crawl space, it's best to choose one that's designed for the cooler space.
Typical home dehumidifiers are inefficient in a cold crawl space and can freeze and cease to operate.
Seal The Crawl Space, Then Dry It!
For the same reasons that you wouldn't heat your home while a window is open, it makes no sense to try to dehumidify a crawl space that is not sealed from outside influences.
Moisture will constantly enter your crawl space through the concrete walls, dirt floors, and open vents. Plumbing leaks and groundwater flooding, if present, are also major contributors to moisture.
